WHA Day Camp

WHA will be hosting a week long full day camp for Squirts, PeeWees, Bantams, Midgets and Girls from Monday, August 11th through Friday, August 15th

9:00 am – 4:00 pm (lunch included)

Cost of camp is $300 – discounts available if registered and paid by July 15th (THE EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JULY 20th!!!)

Sean Berkstresser, Captain of the Greenville Road Warriors, will be running the on ice sessions, as well as off ice “chalk talks”.

Sean is a local resident who grew up playing hockey for the Pittsburgh Hornets and played for various high level teams in the Pittsburgh area, including Pittsburgh Penguins training camp.  Sean’s resume includes playing for the Pittsburgh Forge, where he was a NAHL Robertson Cup Champion and a USA Hockey Junior A National Campion in  02-03; Robert Morris University, Wheeling Nailers, Johnstown Chiefs and most recently the Greenville Road Warriors where he is the team captain. 

Sean will be assisted by Tyler Murovich, who is also a former player from the Pittsburgh Predator and Mt. Lebanon Hornets organizations. Tyler was the captain of the Saginaw Spirit, attended NHL Rookie Camps for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets, played on multiple AHL and ECHL teams including most recently the Orlando Solar Bears, where he was the assistant captain.

Mini Camp for New Mite Players!

When?          August 18 to August 22, 2014
Where?         Kirk S. Nevin Arena

Time?           12:15pm to 1:15pm

Cost?            $50.00

The Mini Camp will focus on teaching WHA players skating skills. Depending on the ability level and size of the class, we may break the players into smaller groups in order to teach the needed skills. Full equipment is required. We will offer stick handling on the final day of the camp; bring your gloves and stick on Friday only.

This camp will be staffed by the figure skating coaches at Kirk S. Nevin Arena. Our coaching staff has over 50 combined years of experience teaching young children to skate.

Payment will be accepted on the first day of class starting at 11:30am in the lobby.

  • In House Mites -The program will practice once a week, typically Saturdays.  This program is designed for is for 1st year players who need to work on skill development. The cost of this program is $350 which includes a $100 non-fundable registration fee, practice jersey and participation in the 4th Annual Laurel Mite Jamboree in March 2015. Participants will be able to register for this program in Oct., Nov. or Dec., fees will be pro-rated based on month registered.
  • Travel Mites - The program will practice 2 - 3 times a week.  This program is designed for players who have previously played on a travel team or who have completed an In House program the previous year.  1st year players may be offered a spot on the travel team if their skill development is far enough along. The Mite Travel program participants will be registered through the PA Amatuer Hockey League (PAHL) and will participate in approximately 10 home or away jamborees throughout the season.  The cost of this program is $590 for the season, which includes a $100 non-refundable registration fee, a practice jersey, home/away jerseys, game socks, home jamboree fees and participation in the 4th Annual Laurel Mite Jamboree.  Mite Travel team participants will be evaluated by the coaches for the first 4 - 6 weeks of the season, August – September The players will be then be placed on individual teams of 9 12 players/team.

2014-2015 WHA On-Line Registration

  1. All players must register for the 2014- 2015 tryouts using the On-line Registration software.
  2. At the time of registration, registrants must enter their 2014 – 2015 USA Hockey Registration Number ( ) and pay a non-refundable $100 registration fee.
  3. If you registered on line the previous season, you should use your existing account to register for the upcoming season.
  4. When registering on line choose the program that your player will be playing in the fall season:
    • Travel Mites (2006 birth year and younger) *
    • Squirts (2004 & 2005 birth years)
    • PeeWees (2002 & 2003 birth years
    • Bantams (2000 & 2001 birth years)
    • Midget U16 (1998 & 1999 birth years)
    • Midget U18 (1996 & 1997 birth years)
    • In House – Oct. Registration *

General WHA Tryout Rules & Guidelines

  1. Players are required to check in at the rink office prior to the 1st tryout session for their age group
  2. Players are required to bring a $200 Commitment fee check at the time of check in  for the 1st tryout session for their age group
  3. If a player cannot make all tryout sessions, they must notify the coach running the on ice tryout
  4. After all tryout sessions are complete, rosters will be approved by the WHA Board of Directors
  5. After rosters have been approved, roster spots will be offered to participants via email.
  6. Roster spots must be DECLINED via email within 24 hours of the offer.
  7. If the roster spot is DECLINED, the $200 commitment fee check will be destroyed.
  8. If the roster spot is not DECLINED within 24 hours, the player will accept the roster spot, placed on the team roster and the $200 commitment fee check will be cashed.
