If your child, ages 4 through 11, is interested in learning to play the
great sport of hockey, this program is for you!
The five (5) week class will be held on Saturdays from 6pm to 7:45pm.
The cost of the five (5) weeks is $75.00.
Our youth hockey organization has limited equipment to loan on a first-come-first-served basis. If you need to use this equipment a deposit of $75 is required. This will be returned to you after the equipment is returned. Registration is at the Nevin Arena on Mon-Fri from 8am to 4pm. You may also register by mail.
Below is a list of items needed:
Helmet, elbow pads, shin guards, gloves.
We provide hockey rental skates to those in need at no extra charge,
Your child will need stick
Players will be evaluated during the first class to access their skills and will be placed in an appropriate level based on their ability. Skating skills will be taught in addition to hockey basics. This instructional program will progress into a 3-on-3 cross ice format, with the ice being broken down into two sections. Parents- please understand that 45 min. is a long time for your beginner child to be on the ice; expect them to take breaks.
Sessions Progress with your child's ability; the next session does not "start over".
Hockey standards to pass the beginner level are: two foot glide, one foot glide, forward one foot push, forward and backward swizzle, pivot turn (left to right), crossover walks and a two foot snowplow stop. Please understand that in order for your child to learn to play hockey they must first learn to skate.
Please arrive for the first class of each session at least 30 minutes early if you are using our equipment.
All equipment is the responsibility of the participant, with the exception of hockey rental skates (those do not go home with you!), and must be returned at the end of the session unless the player is registering for subsequent sessions. The $75.00 deposit will be refunded once all equipment is returned.Anyone interested in joining the youth Westmoreland Hockey Association (WHA), may do so after completing at least one session.
Please complete the attached registration form, and return it with payment, to the Nevin Arena as soon as possible!
